How do different copy modes work in UM Copy Trading Pro?
When you subscribe to a Signal Provider in UM Copy Trading Pro, you can choose how the provider's trades are copied to your account. The Copy Mode determines the lot size of each copied trade based on your selected settings. There are three available Copy Modes, which are Equivalent Used Margin, Fixed Lots and Fixed Multiples.
How does each copy mode calculate my copied lot size?
1. Equivalent used margin
Equivalent Used Margin adjusts the copied lot size based on the margin relationship between your trading account and the Signal Provider's trading account.
The copied lot size is calculated using the ratio between your trading account's margin level and the provider's margin level.
It considers differences in account conditions, including leverage and available funds.
Your copied lot size may differ from the provider's, even when following the same trades.
This mode aims to align your margin exposure with the provider's, although your actual profit or loss may differ.
2. Fixed lots
Fixed Lots allows you to set a specific lot size for every copied trade, regardless of the Signal Provider's trading volume.
For example, if you set 0.10 lots, each eligible copied trade will use 0.10 lots, regardless of whether the provider trades 0.50 lots or 2.00 lots.
This mode gives you more direct control over the lot size of copied positions.
3. Fixed multiples
Fixed Multiples calculates your copied lot size by multiplying the Signal Provider's trading volume by your selected multiplier.
Copied Lot Size = Provider's Lot Size × Multiplier
You can set a multiplier between 0.1 and 50.
For example, if the Signal Provider opens a 1.00-lot position:
Multiplier
Your Copied Lot Size
0.5
0.50 lots
1
1.00 lot
2
2.00 lots
5
5.00 lots
A higher multiplier increases your copied trading volume, which may also increase your margin requirements and potential profit or loss.
Which copy mode is suitable for me?
Each Copy Mode offers different benefits and considerations depending on your trading preferences and risk tolerance.
Copy Mode
Advantages
Considerations
Suitable For Those Who
Equivalent Used Margin
Adjusts copied volume based on margin conditions and account differences.
More complex calculation; profit or loss may not be proportional to the provider's results.
Prefer copied position sizing to take account of differences in margin conditions between their account and the Signal Provider's account.
Fixed Lots
Simple and predictable lot sizing; greater control over copied trade volume.
Copied positions are not proportional to the provider's lot sizes.
Prefer to specify a consistent lot size for each copied trade.
Fixed Multiples
Straightforward calculation; copied volume follows a fixed proportion of the provider's volume.
Larger multipliers may increase margin requirements and trading exposure.
Prefer copied position sizes to be calculated using a fixed multiple of the Signal Provider's trading volume.
Important: No Copy Mode guarantees the same trading results as the Signal Provider. Differences in account balance, leverage, execution prices, and trading conditions may affect your copied trades.
Copy trading does not guarantee profits or eliminate the risk of losses. Actual risk exposure depends on factors such as copied trade sizes, account conditions, market movements and applicable trading costs.
What happens if my calculated copied lot size is too small?
Under Equivalent Used Margin mode, if the calculated copied lot size is below the minimum of 0.0001 lot, the system automatically adjusts it to 0.0001 lot.
This minimum lot adjustment applies only to Equivalent Used Margin mode.
As a result, your copied position may be proportionally larger than the calculated volume when the minimum lot adjustment is applied.
This adjustment may result in greater actual trading exposure than the originally calculated position size.
What should I consider before choosing a copy mode?
Before selecting or changing your Copy Mode, consider the following:
Account balance and leverage: Differences between your account and the Signal Provider's account can affect copied position sizes and margin requirements.
Trading volume: Understand how your selected mode determines the lot size of each copied trade.
Available margin: Make sure you have sufficient free margin to support copied positions.
Risk tolerance: Choose a Copy Mode that aligns with your preferred trading exposure. All Copy Modes carry the risk of loss, and the potential loss may vary depending on the copied position size and trading exposure. Selecting a particular mode does not reduce the probability of market losses.
Existing positions: Remember that changing your Copy Mode will not adjust the lot sizes of positions already copied.
Selecting an appropriate Copy Mode helps you manage how trades are copied to your account based on your trading preferences and available margin. It does not determine trading success or prevent losses.
